What Is Google Earth
For anyone who doesn’t know it (and I don’t think there are many), Google Earth is an app that offers images and information from satellite photos, aerial photos, GIS data and many other sources in overlapping layers, and it is very easy to use.
So Has Google Earth Changed?
We can say with certainty that Google Earth has changed. In an effort to modernise one of its oldest apps, Google did more than change the design of this application: it redefined the way the whole thing works.
What Changed in Google Earth?
You can now see all the information in 3D inside Google Earth and switch between 3D and 2D while you navigate, with highly detailed graphics (you could say the graphics are now at video-game level). There is also a search button where you can ask a question related to the app (for example, what is the capital of France?) and get back information about what you searched for.
Another fantastic feature is Voyager, which essentially offers guided tours of many places around the world. Google has worked with many scientists (depending on the tour) and many non-profit organisations to gather the best possible information. You choose, and Google takes you on the tour.
Finally, a playful feature is “I’m Feeling Lucky”, where Google takes you through Google Earth to unexpected places for you to discover. This catalogue holds 20,000 amazing “gems”, as Google calls them, from around the world, ready for you to explore.
A truly great web app that can now help you on your travels or be your guide to new places.
