Google mainly weighs 3 factors when it scores your site ( seo improves your score): backlinks (links from other websites), RankBrain and, most important of all, the CONTENT of the website. A website’s content is the text your website contains. With a blog you can add and remove content, as well as refresh what is already there. Through the blog, with content as your guide, you can increase your traffic , strengthen your branding and of course bring new customers to you.
We keep telling our clients that their website “must” have a blog if they want results.
Of course, what the blog contains, meaning the content of your blog articles, also plays a big part.
What does not matter when it comes to having a blog is the size of the business, whether it is a sole trader or a personal website or a huge company with lots of staff.
If your website doesn’t have a blog, we at web-mate can create one for you!
What you gain with a blog
1. Better results on Google
As we said above, Google loves content. So, as well as scoring a page with rich content better, consider that if you write about a topic related to your business, Google will index your article in its search engine and a customer may find you through it. Now imagine having 1,000 articles: that greatly increases your chances!
2. Traffic to your website
From the above you can easily see that the more articles you add to your website, the more likely it is that someone visits it! In other words, as your website gains more content, the chances of someone finding it go up. Of course, the better the quality of the content, the better the “quality” of the results for you.
3. Backlinks to your website
As we said above, the content we put in our website’s articles in the blog section also needs to be useful. If I write about a topic that many people discuss based on my article, it is very likely that someone will mention my website and give me a backlink (as a reference to the article). Of course, for someone to give me a backlink, my article has to have something to say or present something new. In general, my article has to be useful.
4. You can build a newsletter
If your blog has rich content, you can build a newsletter, because everyone will want to subscribe to it as it will provide useful information. And of course you can think of the many ways you can use the newsletter afterwards.
5. Branding and social media
With a good blog you show potential and existing customers that you know your field, and you strengthen your branding every day.
You can also post the articles you add to your blog on social media. As well as strengthening your branding, this grows the number of people who follow you on social media and makes your social media stronger.
To run successful Meta advertising (Facebook and Instagram) , articles are an almost essential tool, as they increase the engagement of your post (in other words, how users interact with your post).
6. Sales on your website
With a blog on your website and articles that relate to your field (directly or indirectly), many users will be interested and will read your articles.
We always look at who wrote the article we are reading and which site we are on if the article helped us. That way you help your brand become better known and better liked by users, as we said above.
What you can also do is promote one of your products in your article and create a potential sale. For example, if we have a site that sells bed slats we can write an article on how to stop our bed creaking and include a link in it to the bed slats product, and in that way make a sale.
How to write a good article for your blog
First of all, and perhaps the most useful advice:
If you are bored and treat it as a chore, don’t write anything on your blog, because whatever you write will most likely not be interesting. Although your blog content “must” be refreshed regularly, the worst thing you can do is write just because you have to. The texts you publish on your blog should have passion and energy and make readers want to read more about the topic you are writing about.
Second rule for your blog:
Study the topic you want to write about in depth, and don’t just write hot air. Before you take on a topic, read related articles about it, watch videos, look at infographics and finally jot down your own experience somewhere first, so you can organise all the information properly. Once you are ready and understand the topic you want to cover, start writing about it. Don’t write in generalities, because readers will get tired and leave your website .
Number three on your LIST:
Make lists, and write about them. In other words, write some of the advantages of the product or service you are writing about as a list, and explain the headings you use in the list in more detail.
Don’t forget photos and videos!
As the classic saying goes, a picture is worth 1,000 words, and it really is true. By adding images and video to a blog article, the article becomes both stronger in the eyes of search engines and more interesting for the reader. Of course, not all images and videos have the same effect. A poor-quality image or a low-resolution video will have exactly the opposite effect to the one you hoped for, as both the article and the website as a whole will “drop” in the reader’s eyes. So the result for our business will be the exact opposite of added value. Finally, photos and videos must relate to the text we are writing and add value to it (either aesthetic or real).
Use HEADINGS (h tags)
Use the so-called h tags to structure your content, and try to include in them the keywords you want as well as related words, so that Google understands the topic you are writing about.
Link your website’s articles and pages to each other
Adding links in your article achieves three things.
- You help readers read more and go deeper into a topic they are interested in
- You reduce the bounce rate (an important factor for a better position on Google).
- Research has shown that links within the same website strengthen its score in the eyes of search engines.
Watch out for spelling mistakes!
It is very important that your texts have no spelling mistakes.
Of course, nobody can know how to spell every word and be perfect at spelling, so you can use an auto-correct tool.
That way you will be able to eliminate spelling mistakes
Finally, write a lot, really a lot, of text and reread your article.
Google, and search engines in general, love content. If you want your article to rank high in search engines, then writing long articles (over 800 words) is the only way. Of course, as we said above, those words also need to have value. Once you have written all that text, read your article again and look for anything you have left out or any mistakes.
When you think you are ready, check your text and write even more, with Intralinks (links to other articles or pages on your website).
To see how much content you need in an article, check the articles in the top positions on Google, see how much content those pages have, and write more text.
