How to Choose the Right Domain Name

σωστό domain name

At the start of every website project, everyone has to choose a name for their site. But which name is the right one, and what characteristics should it have?

First of all, the ideal domain can give your website an edge over others in the battle for the top spot in search engines (seo). You should settle on your domain name from the start, as changing it later can have a negative effect on your search engine rankings.

It helps if the domain name contains one of the keywords you want to rank for at the top of search engines. It is also important for your domain to end in .com, .gr or .com.gr (the Greek country extensions), as these give your website credibility and make visitors trust it.

Your domain should be short and easy to read, remember, pronounce and spell. It should stand the test of time and be directly related to your services. A domain that has nothing to do with your services will only confuse visitors. It should use as few words as possible so people can read it easily. The name you choose must be distinct from those that already exist (unique). Your domain name should not contain numbers or odd symbols (apart from the hyphen, which search engines treat as a separator). Symbols like these can confuse a potential customer and send them to a competitor’s website. It is often a good idea to buy the same domain with several extensions, so competitors cannot do it and take advantage of your reputation. Finally, it is very important to renew your domain name on time, because if it lapses a competitor may register it.
