Have you searched for your business name on Google Maps and… nothing? You’re not the only one. It is one of the questions we hear most often. Fortunately, the answer is simple: your business has probably not been listed correctly on Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business).
Let’s look at what this means and – most importantly – how you can fix it.

What Google Business Profile is and why it matters so much
Google Business Profile is the tool Google uses to show businesses on Google Maps and in local search results.
If your business isn’t listed there, it won’t appear on the map, nor when someone searches for “bakery in Katerini” or “hairdresser near me”.
Being there gives you visibility, and just as importantly it builds trust and credibility and helps you rank higher.
How to list your business correctly
Below are step-by-step instructions for getting listed correctly. You don’t need any technical knowledge; just follow the steps.
Step 1: Create a Google account
If you already have Gmail, you’re ready. If not, you can easily create a free Google account.

Step 2: Go to the Google Business Profile page
Open the link https://www.google.com/business/ and sign in with your Google account.

Step 3: Add your business
Type in your business name and follow the instructions.
You will be asked to enter:
- Business name
- Category (e.g. café, pharmacy, electrician)
- Address
- Service area (if you provide services away from your premises)
- Phone number
- Website

Step 4: Verify your business
Next, Google wants to confirm that you really are the owner. Google chooses the method itself, depending on the type and location of your business: a video recording of your premises, a live video call with support, a code by phone or text, email or, less often these days, a postcard with a code sent to your address.
Once you have completed the steps, Google reviews your details, which usually takes up to five working days.

Step 5: Complete your profile
Once verification is complete, fill in as much information as you can: opening hours, photos, products/services and, if possible, collect your first reviews.

If your business is already on Google Maps but you don’t control it
There may already be a listing that someone else created. In that case, you can request ownership of the listing through the platform. Google will guide you through the process and verify that you are the person who manages the business.
When will you appear on Google Maps?
Once you have completed the listing and verification, your business will show up within a few days on Google Maps.
If you still can’t see it, check your details again (especially the address and category) and make sure your profile is active and published.
Check your business address
One of the most common mistakes we see on websites is a business address that is wrong or written differently. It needs to match the address you entered on Google Business Profile exactly. Any difference — even in punctuation or in the order of the details — can confuse Google and affect how you appear in local search results. So make sure the address shown on your website is exactly the same as the one on your Google profile. It is a small detail that makes a big difference.
