The modern business environment demands a corporate presence through the Internet. A beautiful and easy-to-use website can promote the reputation of the business, generate new customers or even contribute to the operation of the business if the website contains management applications. On the other hand, a website that is aesthetically ugly gives a sloppiness to the business and gives the feeling of uncertainty to the customer. Thus, the prospective customer will not come into contact with the company, while existing customers will be suspicious of the sloppiness of this operation. Even a non-functional page or a website with slow loading times creates navigation problems for the user and he may leave it first if he sees an offer that would attract his attention or a new announcement.

But what should someone ask for in order to create an easy-to-use and beautiful website? Below are some guidelines:
1) To have visual contact during her development
If you choose a company or individual to build your website, then as long as he or she respects himself/herself, he/she will suggest that the website be viewed during its creation phase, either on a testing server or on a subdomain or directory of your domain name, e.g. . web-mate.gr/newsite/. If this is not offered to you, you should definitely ask for it as this could be the start of exposing you to an inexperienced web-developer with no technical knowledge or a company that ultimately does not meet your specifications. Still usually developers and self-respecting companies suggest to the client to make comments on aesthetics or functionality as the last word is the client’s and something they don’t like can be changed more easily during the development phase of the website.
2) Not to contain Flash
Flash technology is an outdated technology that, despite the beautiful aesthetics it produces, does not help promote the website in search engines. Even with this technology your website becomes slow and cannot be accessed by mobile phones and tablet pc. A good developer or company will suggest alternative aesthetic solutions that can be created with html5, jquery and css3.
3) To be seo optimized
By this we don’t mean that your website comes out directly in the first position of the search engines, but that there is a preparation to do this later. The website should contain h1,h2,h3 ect tags, be divided into header, section, article, footer areas and of course its menus should be accessible by search engines.
4) Sprite images
This is a technique where in simple terms the images of the web page are merged into one to eliminate calls to the server. Of course we should mention that in some cases it is not possible to make all images a sprite e.g. background image case of repeated . With this technique, you also gain in fast “loading” of your website and in easier promotion of it in the search engines as this is taken into account by them.
5) Responsive Design
Now tablet PCs and smartphones have entered our lives. There are many users (prospects) who can enter your website through one of the aforementioned devices. So it would be good if your website is prepared for them and makes it easier for them. A serious web-developer will have no problem developing a website based on responsive design and may consider it a challenge. An inexperienced and without technical ability will reject the request or not know about it. We have to inform here that sometimes we may have to create a separate version of our website for mobile phones e.g. our website which you can see from your mobile phone in a different version.

Finally, you should be careful and ask for the website to be registered in your name as well as to be given codes from the servers (an account for your website) so that you don’t face any problems later. At web-mate we consider all of the above as standard. A 2nd article will follow on what to ask from web-design companies so visit our blog often.
